Abstract

The internet services market plays a crucial role in the economic development of Uzbekistan, contributing to digital transformation across industries such as e-commerce, education, and healthcare. The purpose of this essay is to examine the effectiveness of the internet services industry in Uzbekistan and pinpoint the main obstacles preventing it from reaching its full potential. With 91.2% of mobile subscribers and 26.74 million users in 2023, the report shows notable advancements in internet penetration.  However, issues like regional disparities in access, slow mobile internet speeds (14.55 Mbps), and affordability persist. This paper contends that the solution to these challenges can be achieved by development of infrastructure, policy reforms, competitive prices, and through improvement of digital literacy that could significantly increase the efficiency of the market. Investments in broadband infrastructure, particularly in rural areas, the adoption of 5G technology, and the creation of affordable pricing models are essential for achieving a more inclusive and competitive market. The government, private sector, and other stakeholders must collaborate to build a robust regulatory framework that promotes fair competition, consumer protection, and innovation in the digital economy.
