Abstract

The formation of polymer PVA nano-composites as films coprecipitated at room temperature using chemical deposition and including cadmium sulfide (CdS) and silver (Ag) nanoparticles was achieved by use of UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy. It was revealed that PVA-CdS/Ag had the highest value of 198 nm (abs = 1.050) as compared to PVA-CdS₆ = 0.30. Eg = 2.83 and (2.70 eV); quantum confinement and plasmon-exciton blue-shifted to become Eg = 2.42 eV of bulk CdS were the band gaps with Tauc analysis. The optical conductivity (2.5110119 s⁻¹) and refractive index (1.52) are enhanced by 3.8-fold and the refractive index by 1.52-1.65, respectively, to render PVA-CdS/Ag a high-performance UV photonic material.
