Abstract
In the contemporary educational environment, the development of pragmatic competence has become one of the essential objectives of foreign language teaching. While grammatical and lexical knowledge remain fundamental components of language proficiency, learners must also acquire the ability to use language appropriately in various social and cultural contexts. Pragmatic competence enables language users to interpret meanings, express intentions, perform speech acts, and maintain effective communication according to situational demands. This article explores the concept of pragmatic competence, its significance in English language learning, and modern approaches to its development. The study analyzes contemporary teaching methodologies, including communicative language teaching, task-based learning, technology-enhanced instruction, and intercultural communication practices. The article highlights the role of authentic materials, digital technologies, and learner-centered strategies in fostering pragmatic awareness and communicative effectiveness among English language learners.
